artist spotlight: slim aarons (& a sale!)

We all know that filling your walls with art can become expensive fast.  I am always on the lookout for pieces that either make a statement or really tie a room together, because when you're handing over a chunk of change you want it to be for something that is making a noticeable difference in the space.  So when I came across one of my favorite photographers prints on sale on One Kings Lane I knew I should share!

Many of you are probably familiar with Slim Aarons photos, even if just from book covers or the infamous print above!  The American photographer known for photographing socialites, jet setters, and celebrities has always been one of my favorites simply because every photo makes you wish you were there.  The fashion, cocktails, what I think of as true old Hollywood glamour.  Reading a little more about his background makes the photos that much more interesting to me also.  At the age of 18 Aarons enlisted in the U.S. Army and worked as a photographer at West Point, he then served as a combat photographer during WWII, also earning a purple heart.  He says combat taught him that the only beach worth landing on was "decorated with beautiful, seminude girls tanning in a tranquil sun." (Well I would say he accomplished that!)  So after the war he moved to California to do just that.  He never used a stylist or make up artist.  He simply says he photographed "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places."  Which that phrase perfectly sums up his work and his career.

"Kings of Hollywood"
"Nonni in France"
"Penthouse Pool"

"La Dolce Vita"

Don't you just want to go back in time?!  These were just a "few" of my favorites...there are lots more on that are part of the sale going on now if you want to check it out!
