This brings me to the iconic and classic Saarinen Table (also known as a tulip table)...
Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956 and released by Knoll in 1957. Saarinen was featured on the cover of Time Magazine in 1956. In the cover story, Art: The Maturing Modern, he said that his current project (^^^ this table) was to "clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home." Reading the article was one of those surreal and so cool to me things. Just the fact that the articles title written in '56, The Maturing Modern, could easily be a title for an article on this same table today....over 50 years later. It's like the iconic Chanel 2.55 flap bag...debuted in 1955 and in 2014 you still have to get on a wait list for one. Safe to say...this is a classic and won't be "out of style" years down the road. Roger Sterling's office on Mad Men even features one..
So here you go...the many ways this classic table can be used. First, there is the obvious kitchen/ dining table...
If you're tight on space pair it with a bench or banquette seating.
A perfect example for when you move into a larger home...your old kitchen table now becomes your entry table!
And my personal favorite...in an office...either as a desk or meeting table. It also works well in a family room or playroom...perfect for homework, board games, poker night?!
While the original is all white there are now many colors out there to choose from and various combinations...hello marble top! Also the price can very drastically from a $200 Ikea knockoff to a marble topped oval original at over $9k.
