restoring chrome furniture

So this weekend I was able to get in some time on one project despite the snow that decided to show up  here.  If you follow me on Istagram (follow me: mshaw315) than you know about the original Milo Baughman dining chairs I scored via craigslist a few weeks ago.  Well to say they were in rough shape is an understatement.  I wanted to first see though if I could restore the chrome before putting any money into having them reupholstered.  So off to the garage I went for hours of elbow grease...and only 1 chair complete!  But what I found worked the best is some info worth passing along!  To remove the rust...coke!!!  Yes like the kind you drink!!!  I have seen my dad pour it on car batteries before but never thought much about it.  Until my arms were so sore and I felt like I was high on fumes from Brasso that I started doing some research and sure enough it works like a charm!!!  Just rub with a soft cloth (I used an old t-shirt) and it will bring it back to shiny as new!

Before....

After...

Isn't it amazing!!!  Now I just have 3 more to go...but the results have definitely made me even more excited about this find!
